LSPVA History

 

 

Highlights:

1980’s

  • Lone Star Chapter of the Paralyzed Veterans of America received its charter in 1989.
     
  • Incorporate in the state of Texas from being a Sub Chapter of Texas PVA and became the Lone Star Chapter Paralyzed Veterans of America
     
  • We purchased the facility at 3925 Forest Lane, Garland TX, which became the Chapters new residence.
     
  • Joined the Greater Dallas Veterans Council to help improve health care and maintain Veterans ceremonies for all veterans.


1990’s

  • November, 15, 1993 Groundbreaking for the Spinal Cord Injury Clinic
    at Dallas VA Medical Center.

     
  • 1995 Hosted the PVA 49th Convention in Ft. Worth
     
  • 1995 Responsible for getting to VA to allow MS patients to be seen in the SCI Clinic.
     
  • 1995 Responsible for getting the first National MS registry in the VA system.
     
  • 1996 Held our 1st Annual Bass Tournament
     
  • 1996 Outstanding Leadership Award from the National MS Society.
     
  • 1999 on committee that formed a formal partnership between Bass Anglers Sportsman Society (B.A.S.S) and PVA to promote bass fishing for individuals with physical disabilities.
     
  • 1999 Formed the first and only all Wheelchair Honor Guard in the Nation to assist in bestowing honors to all veterans.
     
  • 1999 Worked with Dallas County Department heads and Organizations to open the DFW National Cemetery.
     
  • We were invited to inspect the remodeling of handicapped seating at the Cowboys Stadium.
     
  • Presented Colors at the opening of the DFW National Cemetery in 1999.


2000’s

  • Assisted in the American Airline construction Committee.
     
  • 2000 Opened Satellite office at the Dallas VA Medical Center.
     
  • 2001 Received Membership Development Award from National PVA.
     
  • 2003 Received Outstanding Support for SCI Physical Therapy from the Dallas VA.
     
  • 2004 Received Proclamation from Governor Rick Perry Declaring April 11th PVA Awareness Week in Texas.
     
  • 2004 Received Proclamation from Ft. Worth Mayor Mike Moncrief Declaring April 11th PVA Awareness Week in Texas.
     
  • 2011 Held our 1st Annual Trap Shoot in Benbrook TX.
